What a burst is
In Burst mode the Camera takes photos in rapid succession for as long as you hold: swipe the Shutter button to the left, or hold the volume up button if Use Volume Up for Burst is on in Settings › Camera. Photos shows the whole burst as one thumbnail, so dozens of frames can sit behind a single picture.
Keep the best, delete the rest
- Open Photos and find Media Types: on iOS 26 or later tap Collections, then scroll down; on iOS 18 scroll down.
- Tap Bursts and open a burst.
- On iOS 26 or later tap Burst with the number of photos; on iOS 18 tap Select.
- Tap the circle on each photo you want to keep. Gray dots under the thumbnails mark the ones iOS suggests.
- Tap Done, then tap Keep Only Favorites. Keep Everything saves your picks and leaves the burst as it is.
Remove a whole burst from iPhone
Open the burst and tap the Trash button. To remove several, tap Select in the Bursts list, tap each burst, then tap the Trash button and confirm.
Rapid shots that are not a burst
Tapping the shutter several times gives separate photos, not a burst, so they never appear under Bursts. Phone Cleaner groups those near-identical shots under Similar photos on the Clean tab, keeps the best of each set and selects the rest for you to review.
